"Confessions of a Musical Masochist" - David Fagin

In Confessions of a Musical Masochist, David narrates the tale of a career dedicated to pursuing a dream that always seemed tantalizingly out of reach — from viral fame, national tours, and a contract with British rock legends to playing in nearly empty venues with a Jersey cover band, sleeping on floors, chaotic road trips, and experiences with The Muppets, Neil Diamond, and a Domino's Pizza-turned-full-blown drug ring. Witty, honest, and frequently poignant, this memoir reveals the true cost of being an artist when no one's listening and showcases one for whom quitting is not an option. No matter the cost.

Book cover titled 'Confessions of a Musical Masochist: My Life As An Almost Rockstar' by David Fagin. The cover features a black-and-white image of a hand gripping a guitar neck with blood dripping from the strings and a blood droplet hanging from the guitar. A yellow starburst at the bottom right corner contains text noting the author's previous work.

Confessions of a Musical Masochist
by David Fagin

David Fagin is a musician, songwriter, and artist-rights advocate. As frontman of The Rosenbergs, he famously refused a Universal-affiliated TV slot over its contract terms, signed with Robert Fripp's label, appeared on Howard Stern with Gene Simmons, and testified at the C.A.R.P. hearings on Capitol Hill alongside Alanis Morrisette. His song "Birds of a Feather" was the theme to the CBS sitcom Accidentally on Purpose. These days, you can find him fronting his cover band, The Counterfeiters, as well as infusing more than a bit of Spinal Tap into his Britpop tribute, The Wankers.

About the Book

In Confessions of a Musical Masochist, David tells the story of a career spent chasing a dream that stayed permanently just out of reach — from viral notoriety, national tours, and a deal with British rock royalty to empty clubs, floor-sleeping, disastrous road trips, tribute bands, and stints with The Muppets, Neil Diamond, and Sheryl Crow. Funny, candid, and often heartbreaking (but only if you're his mother),  this is a memoir about the real cost of refusing to quit, and about an artist incapable of doing so.
